About the project

Partners In Art celebrated Canada’s 150th anniversary by commissioning artists to create pieces in national parks across the country. The resulting award-winning website was designed as a digital exhibition, offering visitors a curated journey that allowed them to explore Canada’s vast landscapes and experience the artworks in a unique and immersive way. Through this interactive platform, users could travel from one artwork to the next, engaging with Canadian stories and the natural sounds of the environment along the way.

Across the Land

The experience part of the website was built with Three.js and GSAP to simulate a 3D journey across Canada’s National Parks. As users progressed, they encountered generative landscapes representing the country’s various climates using accurate flora and fauna, combined with audio storytelling and environmental soundscapes of Canadian's lives and memories.

Artworks and Data Visualization

As the user reaches the destination, they exit the 3D environment and enter the artist's works on the WordPress site. These pages could have galleries, slideshows, videos, and other content, showcasing the artwork in the manner the artist wanted.

Another notable feature was a data visualization mode that showed the collective impact of all visitors on the virtual landscape, representing the traces left by humans in natural spaces, symbolizing the marks we leave on our environment. As more users visited the same location, the lines would become thicker.
